Risk Book Discussion, Chapter 2.52 (The last one!)

Hello everybody! This is Ryan Matlock, bringing you the 52nd Risk book discussion. The very last one for the entire book! After this book discussion is posted, within one or two days, I will be releasing a video of me talking about some pretty cool stuff that you will probably want to check out. So stay tuned for that. But until then, the countdown has reached it’s end! Today, we reach… 1!!!

And now, the conclusion to Risk, and Risk book discussions:

Tiffany is headed back to the ship, shocked and mourning the loss of her siblings. JUST KIDDING! Her siblings all meet up with her, having gotten out of the underground cavern just before the explosion. Everyone is together again!

Obbin, having been shown the underground passageways by Brother Sam, leads the Wikk children through them, as a shortcut to the Phoenix. After getting to the other side, and almost out of the basin, they hear the roar of Ubel ships, and the whizzing of… rockets?!? Oliver commands the rest of the kids to run, and they get out of the basin. But then, the basin gets blown up in a massive explosion of Ubel rockets. The Ubel REALLY don’t want any clues left behind for others.

But wait, was Brother Sam still in the basin?!? Or did he perish in the explosion? The Skull takes off, and so do the Wikks. The Ubel are going to Enaid, but not the Wikks. They are returning Obbin to his home, and paying someone (most likely Mr. O’ Farrell) a visit.

Well, since this is the last book discussion, let’s make it AWESOME! To start, I will give a little trivia. Did you know that often Brock Eastman will put names of friends and relatives in his books? For example, in HowlSage, it mentions the name Hoobler as being a jewelry store owner. As in Nathan Hoobler? One of Brock’s co-workers at Focus on the Family? Speaking of co-workers at FOTF, if you spell Enaid backwards, it spells Diane! Like, Diane Ingola, another of Brock’s co-workers? I noticed these ones recently, and I myself don’t know if they are references to Brock’s co-workers, or other friends with the same names, but I am fairly certain.

There are many of these references to friends and family in the books, so make sure to keep a lookout!

And to close this book discussion, I have a few questions, and you can answer any that you wish. First, what did you think of the book? Yes, I know it is an obvious question, but I really liked it, especially reading it through again. It seems like the first time I read the book, since it was my first impression, I didn’t pick up on as much as I did this time through.

Another question, what do you think happened to Brother Sam? I mean, he was in the cavern when Oliver last saw him, and then almost immediately after, the explosives went off! Was the red cloaked man caught in the blast, or did he somehow make it through another passageway? And even if he did, was he also able to get out of the basin before the Ubel blew that up?

Well, this is the last Risk book discussion I will be doing, but be sure to keep watching for the video I will release! And also make sure to watch for those hidden names in Brock’s books. Okay, might as well end this book discussion the same way I have ended all of them.

Until next time! ~Ryan M.

Risk Book Discussion, Chapter 2.51

Hey everyone! Ryan M. here, bringing you the 51st book discussion for Risk! It has all come down to this, and then only one more book discussion, and the entire book will have been reviewed, thought about, theorized about, and summarized by me! Only one more to go! Counting down… today, we count down to…. 2!!!!

Tiffany is left hanging on the situation regarding her brothers since the Mtalk stopped transmitting when Oliver picked it up. She waits for a while, and then the Ubel soldiers and her parents emerge from the pool, and she listens in. She hears Captain Vedrick say that they need to leave for the coordinates NOW. But she also hears some bad news. She hears that charges had been set in the underground cavern, and a few minutes later, hears the rumble of the explosion…

In shock, Tiffany makes ready to go with Midnight to the Phoenix, knowing that her brothers had been killed in the explosion. Gathering her pack and the Zapp-it, she heads through the forest.

And then she sees someone. Someone in front of her. Someone with bare feet. Someone whom we will not know who it is until the last chapter! NO!!!! Aren’t cliff hangers awesome?

Until next time! ~~Ryan M.

Risk Book Discussion, Chapter 2.50

Hey everyone! Ryan Matlock here, bringing you the 50th book discussion for Risk! Only this, and then two more book discussions to go! Counting down… 3!

The Ubel soldiers are done with the chess board room, and in order to keep others from accessing any information found in there, they begin to set charges to blow it up. After the charges are set, and the soldiers leave, the boys have to move, FAST!

Descending from their hiding place, Oliver tells the boys to go on ahead, and he goes to retrieve the Mtalk they left in the room. Upon seeing him pick up the Mtalk, Tiffany tells Oliver through the Mtalk that their dad had left a note! Oliver grabs the note, hurrying to the pool before the charges go off! But he is stopped by, you guessed it. The man in the red cloak. Brother Sam.

Brother Sam shows Oliver one of the small chest in the room, and motions for Oliver to get in. Because the man in the red cloak seems to be on their side, he obliges, and instantly drops through the chest and onto a slide, zooming along at an incredibly high speed!

It seems that yet again, Obbin and the Wiik twins get separated from Oliver. Hopefully, that now that both the Ubel and the boys have the coordinates to the next clue, the Wikk children and Obbin will be able to regroup at their ship, the Phoenix and leave before the Ubel do.

Until next time! ~~Ryan M.

Risk Book Discussion, Chapter 2.49

Hey everyone! Ryan Matlock here, bringing you the 49th book discussion for Risk.

Tiffany is stuck in her hiding place, with nothing to do but write out the journey experiences of the Wikk kids. She takes some pictures of the Ubel soldiers, and also sees that they have captured many of the black cats. This means she has to keep midnight now! She continues watching the Ubel and writing. That is, until she hears something on her earpiece.

She starts watching the feed from the video being sent to her from the Mtalk planted inside the chessboard room. Vedrick, another Ubel soldier, and her parents walk into view, and Vedrick begins playing the game of chess. He plays for almost an hour before defeating the computerized opponent. Then some clues are shown on the screen, and Tiffany notices a piece of paper on a shelf. Did her father put it there when Vedrick wasn’t looking?

But Vedrick isn’t without clues. He now has the coordinates to the next planet. But fortunately, so does Tiffany.

Also, someone’s name keep getting mentioned, or at least their code name. Zebra Xavier….and it sounds like someone who is even higher up in the chain of command then Captain Vedrick! Who do you think it is?

Until next time! ~~Ryan M.

Hey everyone! Ryan Matlock here, bringing you the 46th book discussion for Risk.

Oliver and the boys enter the next room, and try to figure out the next clue. The room has a solitary table and one chair, with a chessboard on the table. They find an inscription on the side of the table that reads, “The King will reign forever; he has already defeated evil. You too must defeat the opponent that stands in your way to finding the Truth.” It seems that to advance, they must play the chess game. but there is no switch to turn it on!

After looking around for a bit, they figure out how to turn on the game, and computerized holographic chess pieces and a holographic person appear, the person challenging them to play in order to obtain the next clue.

But there is a problem. Drex is gone, and Tiffany has warned Oliver that the rest of the Ubel are coming through the water to Oliver and the boys’ location. But Oliver has a plan…but what exactly is it?

Okay, so does anyone else play chess? I do, and I happen to really like it! If you play chess, how good are you at it?

Risk Book Discussion, Chapter 2.45

Hey everyone! Ryan Matlock here, bringing you the 45th book discussion for Risk.

As has been speculated in past book discussions, Oliver and the boys do join together in the small cavern! Oliver arrives, surprising and subduing the Ubel soldier with the help of Austin. They then find out that the soldiers name is Drex Powers, who had been at the academy at the same time as Oliver. How did he end up working for the Ubel?

The Wikk kids (and Obbin) can’t worry about that now though, because they need to solve the riddle of the holes in the wall, and the 5 metal doors in the small cavern. Using information from Tiffany’s Ejournal, they figure out which holes to put the rubies from Dabnis Castle into, and every time they place one, some of the doors open, and some close. Good thing they aren’t guessing about where to put rubies, because it seems that if any rubies are placed incorrectly, a huge bolder above the pond will fall, blocking their only exit.

After they finish, and go through the correct door, the come to another door, which has no cross indentation, or the 12 lighting up stones. But they find out that the crosses work on the door itself! Obbin waves his on the door, and 1 of the 3 red rubies above the door starts glowing. Austin uses his cross, turning on the 2nd ruby. Oliver then tries his….wait. His is gone! Looks like they will have to retrace his steps to find it.

Just kidding! The door opens! Mason finds out that hidden inside a book from the ziggurat that he had placed in his pack, was his very own cross necklace!

Until next time! ~~Ryan M

Risk Book Discussion, Chapter 2.42

Hey everyone! Ryan Matlock here, bringing you the 42nd book discussion for Risk. We are well into 4/5 of the book!

The trio of young boys go through the water passage, using oxyverter-like technology for breathing, and the Mtalk lights for navigation. However, Mason’s claustrophobia gets to him again, and he begins to panic about being trapped underwater! But thankfully, they quickly find a way out, and into a small cavern.

In the cavern are many small holes set into the walls, and a plague. The plaque reads, “Place each jewel into it’s proper hole. If you lack even one, then you shall be lost. If you misplace too many, then your fate is sealed.”

Shortly after the boys finish reading this, a Ubel soldier surfaces from the small pool, his weapon trained on the boys. It seems the boys have been caught. Again.

Until next time! ~~Ryan M.
